Located on a green hill, surrounded by the wonderful Tuscan countryside rises Castagneto Carducci, a characteristic Medieval village, that take its name from the famous poet that spent here the happiest months of his childhood. Today is possible to visit his house, where is preserved a collection of his works. In Piazza del Municipio we can admire the bust dedicated to the poet and the Archives Meseum “Giosuč Carducci” collecting all the information relative to his life.
The historical centre of Castagneto is dominated by the “Castle della Gherardesca”, Counts of Donoratico in the IX° century, with the Church of San Lorenzo attached and among the suggestive paving alleys we can admire the Church of SS. Crocifisso.

On the coast is located the hamlet of Marina di Castagneto, that offers wide sandy beaches facing on a limpid sea and surrounded by a thick pinewood.
Moreover here we find the “Cavallino matto”, a big Park for children.

At few KMs from Castagneto it is worth to be visited the Tower of Donoratico, born on ancient Etruscan settlement, first seat of the Gherardesca’s family, that became an important fortress against the enemies raids. |
